A Governance Expert has urged the government to prioritize transparency and accountability in appointments of individuals in the key positions.
This comes after the re-apportment of Dr. John Kunda as the Chairperson of the Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA) board despite serious allegations of corruption and abuse of office during his previous tenure has raised concerns.
In an interview with Lusaka Star, Noel Chisembe said that the Zambian Civil Liberties Unions has called for reconsideration of the appointment.
“The need for a new board composed of independent and qualified individuals is worth considering,” Chisembe said.
“The reapportionment of the board chairperson is a welcome move but the current government came in power after the campaign promise to fight against corruption,”Wesley Miyanda a Governance Expert said.
He said that continuing in the appointment of people with questionable characters to be in public institutions can compromise the fight against corruption and not get intended results.
Mr Miyanda appealed to the appointing authorities especially the president and ministers to appoint people who have refined characters in order to eradicate corruption.
He highlighted that President Hakainde Hichilema is trying to eradicate corruption and appealed to others to also help the president in a quest to eradicate corruption.
