I knew the late Sixth President Edgar Lungu better than anyone else talking about him, and no one can challenge me on that, Economic Front Party President, Wynter Kabimba has claimed.
Mr. Kabimba said based on the relationship he had with Dr. Lungu, he believed the late president would not have supported barring President Hakainde Hichilema from attending his funeral, despite claims to the contrary by Dr. Lungu’s family.
Appearing on ZNBC’s Sunday Interview last evening, Mr. Kabimba stated that excluding President Hichilema or anyone else from the state funeral would be morally and spiritually wrong, adding that such actions do a disservice to the country.
“I am a witness to ECL’s character, and I don’t believe that what is being said today could have come from him. I am voicing out on this matter because I’m speaking about a man I knew very well,” he added.
“I appeal to and plead with ECL’s family to change this attitude in the coming few days and make this a truly national funeral. The way they are currently handling it is not reflective of a national event.”
Mr. Kabimba claimed that politics were at play in Dr. Lungu’s funeral, alleging that some selfish individuals were trying to hold his body hostage.
“What I find disappointing is the idea that these so called wishes are determining who should or shouldn’t speak at the funeral,” he said.
Mr. Kabimba urged the nation to mourn Dr. Lungu peacefully and to give him a dignified send-off and burial.
He also appealed to President Hichilema to remain calm and patient despite any criticism he may face during this mourning period.
