In a significant move to promote menstrual hygiene among students,The First National Bank (FNB) Zambia has donated 68 sanitary bins to the University of Zambia (UNZA) as part of its 16-year anniversary celebrations in Zambia.

Speaking during the donation yesterday at UNZA, Munali Constituency Member of Parliament, Mike Mposha said the sanitary bins would help uplift the youth, promote dignity, and foster partnerships for development.

Mr. Mposha said the initiative is part of the government’s collective commitment to creating an environment where every student can thrive without compromising their basic rights to health and dignity.

“The constituency received a request from students through UNZASU last year, highlighting a significant problem due to the lack of sanitary bins around the female students’ hostels.”

“This concern was later reinforced by the university administration,” Mr Mposha who is also Minister of Green Economy and Environment explained.

He thanked FNB for its generosity in responding to community needs in ways that bring about lasting change and for its continued empowerment of youth through digital platforms.

Speaking at the same event, UNZA Vice Chancellor, Professor Mundia Muya said the donation symbolizes a gesture of dignity, compassion, and empowerment for students.

Professor Muya stated that FNB’s contribution sends a powerful message regarding student well-being and the importance of building a sustainable learning environment at the institution.

Meanwhile, FNB Zambia Representative, Mwamba Musambo, emphasized that menstrual health remains a challenge in learning environments.Ms. Musambo noted that the lack of access to proper hygiene can lead young women to miss classes and, in some cases, withdraw from academic and social activities.

“As a bank, we look forward to working with you as students. In this month dedicated to world menstrual hygiene, we want to say that you matter to us, and we look forward to continued collaboration with students in society,” she assured.
