2022 Census report reveals decline in infant mortality rate

THE 2022 Census Analytical Report has revealed a significant decline in the infant mortality rate across Zambia, from 123 deaths per 1,000 live births in 1990 to 31 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2022.
The decline had been largely attributed to the construction of health infrastructure, particularly in remote areas.
According to the report, the Child Mortality Rate (CMR) in rural areas was 17 deaths per 1,000 live births, while urban areas recorded a lower rate of 10 deaths per 1,000 live births.
