INFORMATION and Media Minister Cornelius Mweetwa has reiterated that the repeal and replacement of the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) Act was aimed at protecting members of the public on the cyber space and not to prevent citizens from exercising their right to freedom of expression.
Mr Mweetwa, who is also Chief Government spokesperson, said the New Dawn Government had opened up room for freedoms and liberties to freely be enjoyed by the citizens.
He said this when he debated a private member’s motion brought by Nkana indepen­dent Member of Parliament Binwell Mpundu that the House urges the Government to facilitate the monetisation of social media in Zambia.
