UPND Secretary General Batuke Imenda has urged students to maintain a strong interest in reading and to cultivate writing skills that will contribute to Zambia’s literacy and intellectual growth.
Speaking during the donation of his book titled Barotseland to the University of Zambia (UNZA) Library, Mr. Imenda stressed the importance of writing in preserving knowledge and shaping society.
“Each of you has a unique story, experience, or idea that can influence and inspire the lives of others. Writing is a powerful tool to preserve knowledge and motivate future generations.”
“Zambia needs more local authors to reflect our culture, challenges, and dreams,” he added.
UNZA Librarian Dr. Charles Banda encouraged students to read the book, which explores the history and traditional governance structure of Barotseland.
Dr. Banda noted that the book offers valuable insight into Lozi culture and traditions, enriching students’ understanding of the region’s heritage.
Meanwhile, UNZA Students Union (UNZASU) President Dixon Mutambo has praised students for successfully completing their first semester despite various academic pressures.
Mr. Mutambo acknowledged the challenges faced by many students, noting that some had to withdraw, were suspended, or tragically lost their lives.
He implored students to avoid engaging in illicit activities, particularly drug abuse and excessive alcohol consumption, during the break.
