Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development Nicholas Phiri says the 156 ambulances which where scheduled to arrive by May 31, 2025 will not be delivered due to logistical challenges.
Speaking at a press briefing held today Mr Phiri said the vehicles will not be delivered as scheduled, citing unexpected logistical challenges in the shipping processes.
“Due to circumstances beyond government’s control the ambulances will not be delivered as scheduled.Government is committed to ensuring that the ambulances are delivered to the Zambian people,” Mr Phiri said.
He said government is working around the clock with other stakeholders to ensure that ambulances are delivered by August 2025.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Information and Media Permanent Secretary Thabo has dismiss allegations that President Hakainde Hichilema’s decision to suspend Madam Justice Emelia Phiri Sunkutu was influenced by tribal considerations.
Mr Kawana emphasised that the President acts only upon mandatory instructions from the Judicial Complaints Commission (JCC).
He also emphasised that the President has no alternative, has no discretion, but only to do that which the JCC has asked, clarifying the constitutional process.
Mr Kawana said within 30 days, the JCC will hear the Judge and will determine the case against or for the Judge.
Kawana said the Local government and Rural Development should be applauded for being so transparent to the public.
Speaking at the same press briefing he also took the chance to refute some social media speculations that the Republican President Hakainde Hichilema suspended Judge Emelia Sunkutu on trible grounds.”
The law mandates Judicial Complaints Committee to deal with Judges, the President does take desciplenary measures against judges,” he said.
Mr Kawana said the President only acts according to the recommendation of the JCC to suspend a judge.
